Riffaterre identifies psychological, philosophical, and genetic interpretations (connected to fabulous tradition) as aiming outwards. These approaches find the meaning of the text in the kinship of its subdivisions to other texts (40). Riffaterre argue s for a more internal reading of the poems. Riffaterre emphasizes the importance of the relationships surrounded by words as opposed to their corresponding realities (40). For example, he states that the flower or the fruit is a variant of the worms dwelling constructed through destruction. Thus, as a word, worm is meaningful only in the context of flower, and flower only in the context of worm (41). After Riffaterres reading and interpretation of the poem, he concludes that The Sick Rose is composed of polarized polarities (44) which convey the central object of the poem, the genuine phrase, the sick rose (44). He asserts that because the text provides all the elements necessary to our identifying these literal artifacts, we do not have to resort to traditions or symbols found outback(a) the text (44). Thus, The Sick Rose is a self-sufficient text.   Hazard Adams takes a different approach to reading The Sick Rose than most critics by cautioning the reader that often one ov erlooks the fact that a literary image primarily imitates its previous usages and secondarily what it denotes in the outer world or in the realm of ideas (13). Adams begins his analysis with examining the rose, and by reminding the reader that in a literary world where the rose is seen archetypally, all things have human body-build (14). Thus he allows for the rose to be able to become part of the vocaliser. He carries his idea one step further by suggesting that the speaker always addresses some aspect of himself when speaking to an object.

The Yellow paper and The caskful Of Amontillado The short story, The Yellow paper, written by Charlotte Gilman, and The Cask of Amontillado written by Edgar Allan Poe, ar stories in which the plots are very different, but share similar qualities with the elements in the story. The Cask of Amontillado is a powerful tale of penalise, in which the vote counter of the tale pledges revenge upon Fortunato for an insult. The Yellow Wallpaper is a story about a woman, her mental difficulties and her husbands therapeutic treatment of her illness. She struggles over her illness, and battles her controlling husband. The caboodletings in both stories are very important, they influence the characters, and help with the development of the plot. In The Yellow Wallpaper the setting helps define the action as well as to let off characters behaviors. The setting is which the story takes military post is in the narrators room, where she is severally ill, and she is locked up in the room whic h served as her cage. The room in which the narrator is caged in is a nursery, it is a big, airy room, the whole floor nearly, with windows that look all ways. The headstone and paper look as if a boys school had used it. The narrator describes the color of the walls as repellent, almost revolting, it is an unclear yellow with a windy orange. The condition that the narrator is in, the repulsiveness of the room, and the room haunting her, drives her into insanity. The Cask of Amontillado takes place in an appropriate setting, not only is the setting underground, but withal in the blackness of the night. The story begins around dusk, one evening during the bazaar season in a European city. The location quickly change... ...he wall, he thinks about his rejected opportunities and his unbearable regret. As he sobers with terror, the final draw will come from the realization that his life is ending in his catacombs death with his finest wine. The catacombs, in which he dies, set th e estimation, and relate well with the story. Without the yellow cover in the short story, the significance of the wallpaper would not mater, nor would it set the theme or plot. At night the wallpaper becomes bars, and the wallpaper lets her see herself as a women and her desire to free herself. She needs to free herself from the difficulties of her husband, and from her sickness. The settings in both, set up the elements of the stories and ads to the effect in both of the short stories. Natural Forces A raw(a) force is a power brought on by nature. Natural forces, unlike those of other powers, are uncontrollable. When a hurri housee passes along the coast, a bolt of lightning strikes a rooftop, and a vent-hole erupts, these are all told examples of natural forces. Natural forces can have ruin effects on wildlife, humans, and the earth itself. Our effects to resist these occurrences, our only focus to cope with such devastating forces of nature are to observe, learn, and prepare ourselves for the worst. I believe that almost everyone has had at least one experience with natural forces. My experience of a tremendous force of nature occurred when my mother and I were in a railroad car and all of a sudden a twister passed through the town.Towards the end of 1989, my family and I were on vacation in Fort Myers, Florida. We drove from Trenton, New Jersey all the way to Florida where my grandfather lived. It was a long trip to undergo, especially being six age ol d and knowing that my father neer stopped the car. By the quantify we arrived at Fort Myers, it was a beautiful sunny day. The wind was gusting profuse to pull my hair back, and I was admiring the palm trees, coconuts, and lizards near the Gulf of Mexico. The inaugural few days were nice, but little did I know that I would soon be caught in the middle of a twister.I can clearly remember being in the car on a humid day with a little overcast. We were driving in the car when all of a sudden the wind started to pick up and it started raining a bit. Within five minutes, the weather progressed and there was so often wind blowing around the car that we could no longer hear the radio. I can remember when I saw a stop star sign spinning in circles like a &8220merry-go-round with electrical problems. I do not remember how my mother got us home so quick and where we were because all around us was a thick gray fog. However, all I can recall from that point on was sitting with my read/ write head in my lap in the back seat of the car. I never witnessed the true power of nature until this incident.There was definitely a lesson to be learned from my experience that day in the car.
